Deli-Style Ham Sandwich

Savory stacked ham with creamy mustard mayo, crisp lettuce, and ripe tomato on soft bread.

5 min1 portions

Ingrédients

  • 2 piece sandwich bread · white, wheat, or sourdough
  • 4 oz deli ham · thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 piece romaine or iceberg lettuce · leaf torn to fit bread
  • 2 piece tomato · sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 piece American or Swiss cheese · one slice
  • salt and black pepper · to taste

Préparation

  1. 1

    Toast the bread

Place both slices of bread in a toaster and toast to your preferred level of golden brown. This adds crunch and keeps the bread from going soggy.

  2. 2

    Spread the condiments

Mix the mayonnaise and mustard together on one side of a bread slice, then spread evenly all the way to the edges. Leave the second slice plain or add a thin extra layer of mayo.

  3. 3

    Layer the ham and cheese

Fold the deli ham slices loosely and pile them onto the mayo side of the bread so they don't lay flat. Place the cheese slice on top of the ham.

  4. 4

    Add the vegetables

Layer the tomato slices over the cheese, then season them lightly with salt and black pepper. Place the lettuce leaf on top of the tomato.

  5. 5

    Close and cut

Press the second slice of bread firmly on top. Cut diagonally corner to corner to make two triangles, which helps hold the layers together and makes it easier to eat.
