Classic Buttered Toast
Golden, crisp-edged toast with a shattering crunch and a rich, melting butter slick across every corner.
3 min2 portions
Ingrédients
- 2 sandwich bread · white, wheat, or sourdough
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter · softened to room temperature
- flaky sea salt · optional, for finishing
Préparation
- 1
Set the toaster
Place both slices of bread into the toaster slots. Set the darkness dial to medium-high — around 3.5 to 4 out of 6 — for an even golden-brown color without burning.
- 2
Toast the bread
Push down the toaster lever and let the bread toast fully until the machine pops it up. Both slices should be deep golden with lightly crisped edges.
- 3
Butter immediately
Pull the toast out the moment it pops. While the bread is still steaming hot, spread a generous tablespoon of softened butter across the entire surface of each slice, right out to the corners, so it melts in fully.

Finish and serve
If you like, add a small pinch of flaky sea salt over the buttered surface. Serve immediately while hot and crisp.
