Stovetop Popcorn
Light, fluffy, and perfectly salted kernels popped in a heavy pot with a touch of oil for a rich, movie-theater style snack.
7 min4 servings
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 2 tbsp neutral oil · canola or coconut
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter · melted
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
Directions
- 1
Heat the oil
Add the neutral oil and three test kernels to a large heavy pot with a tight-fitting lid over medium-high heat. Cover and wait for the test kernels to pop.
- 2
Add the kernels
Remove the pot from the heat, add the remaining popcorn kernels, cover, and let them sit for 30 seconds so they all reach an even popping temperature.
- 3
Pop the corn
Return the pot to the heat. Once the popping begins, gently shake the pot back and forth over the burner. Remove from heat when the pops slow to two seconds apart.
- 4
Season and serve
Transfer the popped corn to a large bowl, drizzle with the melted butter, and toss with the fine sea salt until evenly coated.
